There are many talented musicians and people who like to listen to them in the Murphy, NC area. This is a great place to meet each other, arrange jam sessions, and tell the world what you're doing.
November 3
Fall Fest. this weekend Oct. 3 and 4. Still could use volunteers. Work two hours, admission free/food free. David@folkschool.org
Singing. I play over a dozen instruments---guitar; banjo; mandolin; sitar; kora (Large west African gourd-folk harp with 21 strings). Love to cook. Love to eat world foods (especially Africa; North India; Pacific rim; cook curries; love hot food; grow peppers; hike; swim; read comedy; dig DvD's of old Northern Exposure---like family guy a lot
Most folks say I'm pretty funny. I perform over 100 concerts a year by myself, with friends and for 17 years I have played and sung with the local band Irons in the Fire. When my son who is 15 turns 18 and is off to school I plan on an extended stay in Senegal to study the Kora and teach the banjo to them, as the banjo is no longer played in west Africa, although that is where the instrument originated. I am a Folklorist, and actively collect Appalachian music and song for a living. For 18 years I have been the Folklorist at the Campbell Folk School.

Good morning, David.
I heard that you're going to be hosting a new radio show sometime next week. Is that true?
Can you share the details with us?
All the best,
JD

Good afternoon, David.
That was poor wording on my part. When I said "rejoin," I didn't mean to imply anything about your membership, just that I hadn't seen you here in awhile. Sorry for the confusion.
I'm putting Irons in the Fire on my schedule for Sunday, October 4th. I'm looking forward to it.
As you know, I haven't made it to the Fall Festival for several years while I was caring for Mom and this will be the first year I'll be free to get out there and see my old friends, again.
David, I'd be interested in volunteering for the Sunday morning shift (9:00-11:30). What's the deadline on this? (Currently, my car is broken and I'm not sure what it's going to take to fix it, but I sure hope to be back on the road before then!)
I'll always volunteer to work (for a good cause) when it involves free admission and food! (grin)
If not the early morning shift, perhaps the mid-day shift on Sunday?
It's great seeing you here! I really miss all your great jokes, singing at Morning Song, and talking with you, that I enjoyed when I was working on the Folk School's database about a gazillion years ago.
I haven't heard Irons in the Fire lately, in person, but I listen to a couple of CDs on a regular basis. I'm hoping to make it to the Fall Festival this year. Will you be playing with Irons in the Fire, then?
If there's anything I can do to help you get more from this site, please let me know.
