Having just visited Murphy from SE Florida in mid-May, my better half and I were smitten by the beauty of the mountains and charm of the area. I saw some construction debris around the Henn Theater and was not aware of the March fire. In fact, my first thought was that the theater might be slated for demolition. I was delighted to learn otherwise today.
I love old theaters...big and small...and only wish I could have had a glimpse of the reconstruction going on inside.
BTW....sorry for my sorry picture. It was taken at a Halloween party my duo played. Its the only pic I could find. Probably a good thing....cuzz I have a face made for radio. :)
Howdy all. Just now saw the invites from the Dilbeck clan. I will get some new photos and post them. I'll have some before and after shots for you. Thank you for all your support through this rather trying event. I'm quite happy that we're back up and operating.
Well hey!! You made it on here. Glad to see you here. Can't wait to see the pics - of course, I guess I could just come see a movie, huh? Yeah, maybe I'll do that this weekend. Do u still have the matinee on Saturday?
We were talking about this in June and now it's October, already.
Truth is, we do have a slower pace around here, but some of us are very, very busy people and we get sidetracked.
I finally remembered to take my camera and started a photo album for the Henn Theatre, but all I got was the outside entrance. I didn't realize the theater was closed for remodeling or maintenance. But, that won't stop me!
Coming soon to a Murphy Connections near you - more photos of the Henn Theatre.
The 9th Annual Heritage Walk & Festival, to be held Saturday, September 5, 2009, in Konehete Park and historic downtown Murphy, NC, will feature a number of new venues along with the events that have made this festival one of the more popular happenings in western North Carolina.
While plans are ongoing, a new feature will be a presentation by Anne Rogers, professor of anthropology at Western Carolina University. Her topic will be “Cherokee Ceremonial Practices in the 1800s.” The hour-long presentation will be at the Henn Theater, 1:00 pm and is sponsored by the Friends of the Murphy Public Library.
Thanks for letting them use the Henn Theater, Bill!
