Murphy NC 28906 - A growing community with small town charm

What is everyone doing for the 4th? We are going to our mountain home in Gatlinburg knowing that there will be over 100,000 people there. Are we crazy or what?

Good morning, Carol.

OK, give me a moment to think...uh...I vote crazy! (grin)

I know there won't be that many people here in Murphy! I haven't decided what I'm going to do. Since there won't be a parade, I probably won't be out as early as I'd planned. There will be events all day in Konehete Park and I may wander down that way. If nothing else I can sit by the river and watch the geese and ducks.

After dark, there's only one thing to do -- fireworks!

For people spoiled by big city fireworks extravaganzas, our fireworks show can be a bit disappointing, but it will hold my attention and I plan to enjoy every minute of it, ooohing and aaahing with the rest of the crowd.

I used to go by The Sweet Tooth and get a hot fudge sundae to take with me to the fireworks, but I try to avoid ice cream these days. Maybe I'll find some BBQ somewhere this year.

Hope you have a great 4th!

JD

Actually, I'm dreading the 4th in Gatlinburg. There is going to be over 100,000 people! But since our home is on the market there we may as well go and make the best of it. Hopefully the house will sell soon and we won't be going out there much anymore. It is beautiful but crowded. Fireworks your way sounds more inviting to me.

I haven't been to Gatlinburg in maybe 15 years or more. There are some things I like there, but not enough to visit. I bet everything has changed there in that time, though. Maybe I'll go over there for a visit one day, maybe this fall.

I always look forward to the fireworks here.

I had a great time watching the fireworks in Konehete Park last night. It was even more special sharing them with family.

It was the first time I've ever had a hard time finding a parking spot in Murphy and I was there over an hour early for the show. I finally managed to get one of the last spots in the area next to the old rock gym and walked part of the way on the paved Phase 1 section of the River Walk to go under the road and get to the park.

I want to send out a big "Thank You" to everyone who has worked and fought so hard to make sure that we enjoy the freedoms we do today.

Have I mentioned that I love fireworks?

(grin)

Hi, we came and stayed up at Pine Creek Cabins for the 4th and enjoyed it so much. I did the 5k race that morning(32 min 37sec) not too bad I guess. Then we went and showered up and came back to the celebration and let our daughter enjoy all the fun there. What a hot but great day it was. I loved the fireworks they had and we are going to make it a family tradition of going up there every year for it.
